Blacketts lifestyle information and support service is a service set up for Blacketts patients who may be worried about their health due to their weight, may have coronary heart problems or be pre-diabetic. There are a number of reasons why looking at lifestyle choices could help patients with these and other problems, therefore we run a course over 6 weeks.
In 2018, we ran 5 groups with a fantastic response. They were held on a Monday morning at 11am to 12pm. Patients attend the practice in a private meeting room from 10.45 to provide a staggered welcome allowing the patient to get weighed individually, hand in food diaries and enjoy refreshments before the hour course commences at 11am.
Each weekly meeting has a programme. Information on fats, sugar, how to shop, government guidelines, portion control etc. Each week we discuss small changes that can be made to one’s lifestyle; we do not promote branded diets of any kind. The patients are encouraged to try healthy alternatives to meals and snacks brought in by the team. The groups are very interactive and patients encourage each other.
The groups that have run this year have lost between 3 and a half stone and 7 stone per group, during the six week course, but more importantly, the patients took away some inspiration and tips on how to make little changes that make BIG differences to their weight and overall health.
If you are interested in joining one of the groups please contact the reception desk or ring 01325 380640. If you are interested and would like to request alternate day and times which we would look at accommodating, please contact Lisa or Sandi on the above number who will be happy to discuss with you or drop us an email at darccg.admin-Blacketts@nhs.net
